Meret Oppenheit – Retrospective

16 August – 1 December 2013
Meret Oppenheim – Retrospective

Meret Oppenheim, born in Berlin on 6 October 1913, is counted among the most important female artists of the 20th century. Were she alive she would have celebrated her centenary in 2013. She was a significant protagonist of Surrealism.01_Portraet_Taetowierung.jpg Her playfully humorous use of everyday materials that she imbues with ever changing contexts of significance connects her to her artist friends Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, and Man Ray. Comprising 190 of her works this exhibition presents – for the first time ever in Berlin – the entire spectrum of her oeuvre, which remains pioneering to this day in terms of its independence and variety
